GLAS MESH COMPANY NEWS

The company recently completed the single largest material order in the company's history. Glas Mesh supplied all the FRP Saddles used on a project involving the installation of a new 48" water main located in New York City.

A major consideration of the project was protecting the pipe's factory applied thick barrier coating from its' concrete supports. The supports were designed to completely encircle the pipe approximately every 10 to 20 feet. The bottom half of the concrete support was engineered to support and cradle a four foot, 180° section of pipe. A two foot cap was placed over the top half of the main.

Special ID 48" FRP Type # 180 Saddles with 1/2" thick walls were specified to protect the pipe's coating from the concrete supports. To accomplish this, the FRP Saddles were placed on the pipe and held in place with temporary structures until the permanent supports were built around them. Once the framework was in place, the concrete was poured around the protected section of pipe to complete the supports.

Phase I and II of the project each took about a year and a half to complete.

48" Type # 180 saddles were shipped in lengths of two and four feet. The two lengths were installed as sets with the longest on the bottom.
